About us

"Welcome to the Royal Liverpool Academy. The Academy is the symbol and the academic centre of the organisation which is a pre-eminent University teaching hospital. It's aim is to provide high quality healthcare education by deriving this from the high quality research that is produced and clinical services that are delivered from within our Trust. Learning is delivered not only locally or nationally but also with international partners -

There are two Education Centres at the Royal Liverpool and the Broadgreen sites. In addition, Dental training is provided at the Dental Hospital, also a part of the trust.

I hope that you will spend some time in exploring our sections for Undergraduate and Postgraduate training areas, which form the bulk of our activity. An innovative learning environment is provided by our Simulation and Skills facilities for the entire healthcare workforce and helps deliver the patient safety and quality agenda of the Trust. This is underpinned by the excellent knowledge resource that is provided by the Library service. The MASTER Unit is a unique provider of surgical skills training.

We aim to provide an environment that encourages and supports both practical learning and formal education and the Academy website will allow you to explore the many facets of that environment and also contains resources that are designed to support a learning organisation.

The medical education service is led at Directorate level by Trust Education Leads and they are supported by:

  • Dr. Peter Williams, Medical Director & Executive Lead
  • Dr Tom Kennedy, Director of Medical Education (Interim)
  • Mr. Chris Webb, Foundation Training Programme Director
  • Dr. Aftab Ahmad, Clinical Sub Dean for Medicine
  • Mr. Shakil Ahmed, Clinical Sub Dean for Surgery
